To ensure that "intelligent transportation system" (ITS) conducted in the whole wide implementation within the European Union to reduce traffic congestion and improve road safety, the European Parliament Committee on June 22 approved new legislation that would require the full deployment of the new ITS systems by 2013 , and the new system to be compatible with existing systems. Committee plans to hold the July plenary session to vote on this.
May this year, Transportation Committee and the European Parliament to reach a consensus within the EU member states and the introduction and deployment of the intelligent traffic control systems and auxiliary systems is compatible with existing system. In addition, they revised the draft legislation, taking into account the road traffic and vulnerable groups, and highlighted the data privacy issues.

Callable vehicles emergency services
Examples of ITS contains System highway electronic toll system, global positioning systems, traffic monitoring systems and alarm systems, for example, the "emergency call" system will start automatically when accidents happens. ITS systems are not only applicable to passengers, but also to various forms (such as road, rail, air, sea) transport of goods.
Reunification
Development of a common Europe-wide program generally is necessary to ensure that it is implemented in each member country in the EU, to make the systems of all countries maintain compatible, and to provide seamless service for transportation network across Europe .
Deployment schedule
The deployment schedule of ITS services is as follows:

* To deploy multi-modal travel information service within the EU the end of 2014
* To provide universal free traffic information on road safety by the end of 2012
* To deploy automatically send emergency services incident eCall technology interoperability the end of 2012
* To deploy security for the commercial vehicle and truck parking the end of 2012
Pan-European Interoperability
EU member states are free to choose whether or not to implement these systems in their own countries. If the decision is implemented, it must comply with EU norms uniform requirements to ensure interoperability across Europe.
